Over the last 50 years we have partnered with many like-minded organizations to bring greater opportunities to children and adults with disabilities. One of those organizations is the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities, who is also celebrating 50 years of service in 2017! The CCBDD offers a full range of services including: activities centers, in-home intervention, family resources, Help Me Grow and community employment. They work with providers like Wayside to give individuals and their families an array of choices that best meet their needs and personal goals.
The CCBDD and other county boards were formed decades ago by parents who, frustrated by the lack of support in the public school system, wanted better choices, integration and opportunities for their children. They lobbied the Ohio General Assembly to form Boards in each of Ohio’s 88 counties. The Board is funded by county property taxes and state and local funds. Individuals are referred to the CCBDD through a variety of avenues and obtain waivers, which allow them to choose providers for the services they need.
The Wayside works with the CCBDD to be a provider for choice offering residential, transportation and day programming services. Many of the individuals we serve also participate in CCBDD’s programs, like Employment First which provides job training and skills for community employment. Folks in the program work at many area business or at a CCBDD enterprise like Just-A-Buck, Pulley’s Café and Cleveland Crops, an urban farming venture. Individuals also have the opportunity to participate in CCBDD workshops and enjoy activities, outings, crafts and personal development.
Partnerships like this one are something Wayside works to create because they offer greater opportunities to the individuals we are privileged to serve. Congratulations to the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities on helping individuals achieve their dreams for fifty years! To learn more about CCBDD click here.
