Last week some of our partners gathered to share our story with some new friends and talk about the benefits partnerships like these create. Occasions like this are a wonderful way to expand our circle of friends and supporters which enhances our ability to create life-changing opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities we are privileged to serve. We are grateful to all of our friends and supporters and enthusiastic for the partnership opportunities this year will bring.
Developing partnerships with like-minded businesses and organizations has helped The Wayside grow and create opportunities for the individuals with developmental disabilities we are privileged to serve. In 2015 we broadened our partnerships with Medical Mutual, Smart Business Network, The Cleveland Cavaliers, the Cleveland Indians, Airforce One, The Shamrock Companies, Northwest Bank, ADP, Habitat for Humanity, Strategic Healthcare and Intellinetics. The Wayside is moving forward! We are thrilled to announce that we have extended our Transportation services to Summit County! This means that Wayside is now in five counties: Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Medina and Summit.
We all have lives full of things we need to do and things we love to do: work, movies, doctor appointments, concerts, shopping, visits with family and friends-and transportation gets us there. Transportation is not an amenity, choice or courtesy, especially for individuals with developmental disabilities-transportation is a necessity. The ability to be mobile is critically important to those with disabilities, it allows them to participate in their community and realize their individual goals, leading to greater opportunities. We are also adding ambulette services as the newest component in our array of transportation services. Stay tuned for more information on this exciting new service. To learn more about our Transportation Program and how we are creating opportunities every day please visitwww.thewayside.org. On Monday evening our consumers gathered for a St. Patrick's Day Party at Tom's Country Place. It was a night of dancing, music, treats, and surprise visits from Slider the mascot and the Cavs Scream Team! It was also a wonderful time for everyone to catch up with friends after the holidays. Photos were taken, memories were made and new friends were made. The dance floor was full all night and the Cavs Scream Team showed us some sweet new moves!
Special thanks to Tom's Country Place, Ray's Auto & Truck Service, Slider, the Cavs Scream Team and Mitch our beat dropping DJ for making the night fantastic! March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month! Enacted in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan to raise awareness and encourage greater opportunities for those with developmental disabilities. This started the shift towards de-institutionalization and greater independence and social change. In 1990 the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed to eliminate workplace discrimination. Here at The Wayside we strive to create opportunities everyday for the individuals we are privileged to serve. Our innovative Pathways Program is focused on extending the range of community integration through a variety of learning, activities and personal development. The expanding Transportation Program gets over 500 individuals where they need to go each day in a safe, accessible way. Our Residential Program has been at the core of the agency's mission for nearly 50 years and the Respite Program provides individuals with disabilities from the community a safe place during times of crisis or temporary situations. The opportunity to live in a home of their own, dream and achieve is our mission and one we couldn't do without the your help. Thank you. Visit Wayside's website at www.thewayside.org to see how we have become Home to Opportunity to the individuals with disabilities we are privileged to serve. Wayside's Transportation Program fleet is 114 vehicles strong and growing! The ability to be mobile is critically important to our consumers, it allows them to participate in their community and realize their individual goals, leading to greater opportunities. The Wayside is unique in providing safe, reliable transportation by having a specially modified van at each of our homes. Stay tuned for expansion news in 2016! As we start a brand New Year we want to take a minute to reflect back on the wonderful holiday season we had here at Our Lady of the Wayside. Whether attending the Wayside Holiday Dance, Special Stars Christmas Celebration, spending time with family and friends, seeing Christmas lights or viewing area holiday decorations we certainly enjoyed the season!
We would also like to say a special thank you to several local churches who gave each resident in each of our homes a Christmas gift. With 70 homes it is a big undertaking! Thank you Holy Spirit, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Holy Trinity and St. Angela Merici Parish for making the season merry and bright for our residents! We wish everyone a Happy New Year and we are looking forward to 2016! In 2015 alone, Our Lady of the Wayside accomplished well over half of its three year Strategic Plan by:

Home, it's a place of rest, comfort and family. There is no place like it and we are happy that three ladies now have a place to call home! We are pleased to announce the opening of a new home for these ladies in Brunswick. Karen, Carole and Constance moved in this week and are excited to celebrate the holidays in their new house! They can't wait to explore their new community and continue their hobbies such as bowling, dining out, movies and swimming. You, our supporters, helped make this dream possible, thank you!
