Each year we honor two individuals that embrace the spirit of giving at our annual Starlight Guardian Humanitarian Luncheon. It's a chance for us to come together to celebrate the amazing contributions of those in our community who are dedicated to serving others. This year we are pleased to honor Fred Koury, CEO & President of Smart Business Network and David C. Weiner, Attorney and Our Lady of the Wayside Board Member. In addition to honoring these two community leaders the Starlight Luncheon raises much needed funds for Our Lady of the Wayside. This year proceeds from the event will go towards funding for Wayside's new Pathways Adult Day Program in Valley View. A celebration of diversity and inclusion, Pathways' activity-based programming provides individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity for community access, interaction and fun. The new site will host 70 participants and is need of specialized furnishings and adaptive equipment that will help the individuals we support be as functional and independent as possible. Join us November 11th and noon at Landerhaven for this signature event. Reservations available online at www.thewayside.org or call 440-934-6054. Interested in sponsoring the event? Call 440-934-6054. Our 2nd Annual Labor of Love Run was a success thanks to the 600 runners, walkers and friends who came out to support The Wayside on August 31st in Rocky River.
The weather cooperated for a morning of running, walking and family fun in the activity area with face painting, balloon creations, a photo booth, Duck Tape booth, Sport Clips, Just a Buck, Well Fit and Dave & Buster's. Host Average Joe from Q104 kept everything moving along as our emcee after he ran four miles! Everyone enjoyed music by Recess along with treats from Erie Island Coffee, Bruegger's Bagels, Nature's Bin and Dairy Queen. Awards by Second Sole, Dick's Sporting Goods and the Pathways Program. The proceeds from this event will support Wayside's programs, services and homes for individuals with disabilities in Northeast Ohio. Thanks everyone for a wonderful race, see you next year! Thanks to our friend, Dream Days Ohio, some of our Pathways Day program folks were invited to participate in Dream Day at Browns Training Camp last week! It was an amazing day! We watched practice then we met and got autographs from several players! They were so nice and signed our hats, lanyards and shirts. They even let us take some photos and took the time to chat with us about football! Thanks to all of the Browns players and Dream Days Ohio for making this dream come true for us!
This is the second Dream Day event our Pathways program has been invited to participate in this year and we are overwhelmed with gratitude at these amazing opportunities, thanks Dream Days Ohio! Thank you to the over 80 golfers who braved the weather for our 7th Annual Amateur Golf Championship at Lake Forest Country Club last week. Even though the weather didn't always cooperate everyone had a good time golfing, partaking in the Chinese auction and supporting The Wayside.
The award for first place team, Low Net-110, was the group of Michael DeRose, Brad Bledsoe, Dale Starcher & Carl Short. Second place, Low Net-122, went to The Shamrock Companies team of Jim Walters, Dave Fechter, Brian Phillips and Dustin Reaser. First place Low Gross Individual went to Mike Hargrove and first place Low Ne Individual went to Craig Broadbent. Congratulations everyone! Dear Friends and Family, It is hard to believe we are approaching our 2nd Annual Labor of Love Race on August 31st. I feel as if it were yesterday that I sat down to write to all of you asking you to join our inaugural race. Labor of Love is more than I ever imagined and that is because of you. After the race last year, Michael and I were so overwhelmed with gratitude and joy. The huge outpouring of support from Q104 and Average Joe, our friends, family and the community confirmed what we already know ---- We are so darn lucky! Last year we exceeded our goal and had over 400 runner/walkers. You may recall last year seeing the many individuals that Our Lady of the Wayside serves, including my Michael J. who very much enjoyed being pushed in his jogger. The smiles and laughter really confirm that it is the small things that really make a difference. As most of you know, our son Michael J. has a deletion of his 22nd chromosome. Michael is now 22yrs old. He is going through some medical challenges and that put him in the hospital twice last month. The Wayside staff was amazing. They made daily visits to the hospital to not only give us an extra hand but to come and visit as a friend. The compassion and kindness that they have for my Michael J. and for all the amazing consumers that they serve is just one piece of The Wayside. Please come run or walk with Michael J. and our family on Sunday, August 31st in Rocky River. There is a 4 mile run, 2 mile fun run/walk or find a partner and run the 4 mile relay. Remember, as my daughter Helen once told me, “It’s all about the journey not the destination.” I believe that she is right because it is the journey we remember! So please help us meet our goal of 750 runner/ walkers this year by registering at http://www.thewayside.org/labor_of_love.aspx! With much gratitude, Gina and Michael O’Shea The weather was perfect for another great Grapes & Ale event! Over 1,100 guests enjoyed sampling over 200 fine wines, craft beers from over 25 breweries and savory summer fare from some of the best restaurants in Cleveland. Guests had fun dancing to the music provided by Colin Dussault's Acoustic Side Project, posing for photos in the photo booth and browsing through the cool Chinese Auction items. Many folks also tried their hand at the always famous beer slide!
While Grapes & Ale, along with our other events area always a lot of fun, they raise much needed funds for Our Lady of the Wayside. The proceeds from this benefit will go towards our residential housing, respite program, transportation and day programming services that 500 individuals with disabilities use every day. Thanks everyone for supporting Our Lady of the Wayside! Up next is our Annual Golf Outing at Lake Forest Country Club on August 11th. Register your foursome at www.thewayside.org. After a long and cold winter we're really excited for our summer events and we know you are too! There's no better way to celebrate the warm weather than to come to one (or all) of our fundraisers that benefit the individuals with disabilities at Our Lady of the Wayside. We've got something for everyone this summer! Grapes & Ale, presented by Giant Eagle, kicks off the summer fun on June 27th at Progressive Field, with wine, beer, live music and savory summer fare. It's one great summer picnic at the Ballpark. The best part? Tickets start at just $50 each, you don't want to miss this event! The fun continues on August 11th with our Amateur Golf Championship at Lake Forest Country Club in Hudson, Ohio. They have a beautiful course and after you enjoy a day of golfing you can relax with dinner on their new patio. The golf championship is a great company (or friendly) outing that gives back. And who knows, you might even win the trophy! We end the summer fun on August 31st with the Labor of Love Run at Rocky River High School. This is an event the whole family can enjoy! Run or walk four miles or do the two mile relay through the lovely city of Rocky River. After the race join Average Joe from Q104 in the family fun area for games and activities.
For tickets to any of our summer events or for more information visit www.thewayside.org or call (440) 934-6054. We're looking forward to seeing you this summer! |
